CURRICULUM

The YMCA uses Creative Curriculum developed by Teaching Strategies Gold, Inc. The curriculum focuses on five components:
1) How children develop and learn
2) The learning environment
3) What children learn
4) The role of the teacher
5) The role of the family

The curriculum is consistent with the YMCA philosophy, which focuses on a child-centered and holistic approach to early childhood programming. Core content includes literacy, math, science, social studies, arts, technology, healthy habits, and social/moral/spiritual development.

We are located at 2918 Glenwood Avenue in Rockford.

The YMCA CLC participates in ExceleRate Illinois, which awards quality ratings to early childhood programs. The YMCA CLC falls in the Silver Circle of Quality, which means that we are committed to a higher level of staff qualifications and continuous quality improvement.

All teachers at the YMCA CLC meet or exceed state requirements. Many staff members hold a B.A. or a B.S. in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

The YMCA CLC is a safe and supportive environment that promotes each child’s self-confidence, curiosity, cooperation, and creativity. Each child is given the opportunity to grow socially, intellectually, and physically in an atmosphere of learning and discovery through hands-on experiences and age-appropriate activities.

The center maintains an open door policy. Parents are welcome anytime.

Yes, there is a daily schedule that reflects a balance of both active and quiet play, as well as opportunities for both solitary and group play.

Yes, parent/teacher conferences are held twice a year or by parent or teacher request.
