Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd has welcomed the YMCA into its building to expand programs to serve the community. The Y offers youth after school programs and community fitness classes.

GOOD SHEPHERD IS MOVING TO THE SWEDISHAMERICAN RIVERFRONT YMCA!

Construction is starting in January 2024 at our Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd location, where our Little & Jr. Achievers programs take place. While renovations are occuring, program will move downtown to our SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA. YMCA transportation is available from Welsh Elementary and West Middle School. All other schools will need to fill out an RPS 205 Transportation Waiver and return it to their child's school or the Transportation office. Click HERE to access the RPS 205 Transportation Waiver.

AMENITIES

The Y offers Little Achievers free after school programming at this location for youth in K- 5th grade. During program students participate in activities, such as math & reading support through "Win Early Literacy" curriculum, snack & dinner, games, STEM, and more!

Monday - Friday
School days: 2pm - 6pm
Non-school days and summer: 9am-5pm

RPS transportation is available to program from Westview & Conklin. Transportation requests should be sent to RPS 205.

Little Achievers is supported by the U.S. Department of Education through the Rockford Public Schools Live Learn Play grant.  A total of $439,681, or 24%, of the program is financed with federal funds, and $1,390,198, or 76% is funded by other sources.

The Y offers free Jr. Achievers after school programming at this location for youth in 6 - 8th grade. During program students participate in activities, such as financial literacy, college knowledge, nutrition & cooking, recreation, service learning, tutoring, & more! Additional mentoring and leadership opportunities are available to youth, such as Bro Code, Sister Circle and Youth & Government.

Non-school days and summer: 9am-5pm

Participants have the opportunity to receive a free individual YMCA membership upon attending 80% of program sessions, completing a community service project and maintaining positive behavior when attending any YMCA programming at our various facilities.

Programming is funded in part by the state of Illinois and in partnership with Rockford Public Schools through the ARP Esser funds.

Through a partnership with Rosecrance and funding through the Winnebago County Mental Health Board, we are able to offer mental health services available to youth and families enrolled in programs. Mental health services are offered in the form of group sessions or 1-on-1 counseling with a mental health professional.

Youth ages 12 and over have access to the fitness center during program hours. The fitness center has cardio equipment including an upright bike, seated bike, 3 ellipticals, and a treadmill. Additionally, there is strength equipment including a bench press, a squat rack, and a rack of dumbbells. Trained staff are on-site monitoring and assisting youth.
