Construction Starting & Parking Impacted

As construction begins on the wellness center expansion at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA, here is what you need to know about the parking lot impact. A portion of our parking lot will be closed and the flow of traffic will be adjusted beginning Wednesday, September 27. It is expected to remain this way until construction is complete in summer 2024.
  • The road in front of the riverview entrance will be closed north of the doors.
  • The road on the north side of the building between the Community Foundation and the Y will be closed.
  • The handicap parking in front of our entrance will not be accessible during construction. We are adding five additional spots (next to the existing spots) in the front row of the parking lot.
  • A section of the northern parking lot will be closed and set-up as a construction zone.

More About the Expansion

The new 9,000-square-foot structure will be built to the north of the existing wellness center, which is on the northwest side of the building facing the river. The addition will include an extra 50 cardio pieces, a functional training system similar to what we have at the Northeast Family YMCA, and increased weight training amenities.

This project is a $3.1 million investment in the downtown facility and represents phase one of a $15-$20 million capital campaign. YMCA staff continue to raise funds to complete this phase one project and for future projects. The remaining funds needed will be borrowed from YMCA investments with plans to pay that loan back with interest as gifts are received.
