Swim Lessons

The YMCA knows swim lessons, in fact, modern swim instruction was invented at the Y. Millions have learned how to swim at the Y – your child could be next.

Our YMCA certified instructors focus on swim instruction, water safety and fun for everyone.  Your child will build friendships, develop self-esteem and create positive experiences that will last a lifetime. We offer swim lessons for all ages and skill levels, lifeguard certification and the Stingrays Youth Swim Team.

Year-round swim lessons are offered in our warm-water, indoor pools. Outdoor lessons are offered during the summer months at the Rockford Park District pools. 

Additionally, we have free swim lessons for foster care families through a partnership with the nonprofit UNSINKABLE. A YMCA membership is not required for these free lessons. For families interested, please contact our membership desk or email our team at aquatics@rockriverymca.org.

Outdoor lessons at Alpine Park Pool and Sand Park Pool are by registration starting in June. Free, drop-in lessons are available at Harkins Aquatic Center starting June 17th Monday-Thursdays at 4:15pm.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At this time, we ask that only one parent get in during a parent-child class due to the need for social distancing.

Right now only two group classes will take place at any given time. There will be adequate room in the pool to keep the classes separated.

We are now limiting all classes, of all ages and abilities, to 4 swimmers. Even parent-child classes will only have up to 4 enrollments. However, classes with less than 3 participants will be canceled or, if possible, combined with another class.

Yes. If you want to get in the water and follow along with the instructor to help your child partake in the class from a distance, you are more than welcome to do so.

Limited on-deck seating will be available. Chairs and benches will be socially distanced and we ask that families not move these chairs or benches. Chairs and benches will be sanitized throughout the day.
