The YMCA of Rock River Valley dedicated the activity center at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA in honor of two very special volunteers and donors.
The space will now be called the Rick and Lana Engen Activity Center. The space is a hub for a variety of activities at the Y. It is where our track, basketball courts, climbing wall and many classes take place. It is also a pass through to many other parts of the Y.
Rick is a long-time board member and volunteer. Rick’s wife, Lana, shares his passion for the Y’s mission.
“Their giving has made a number of things happen at the Y this year alone,” said Michelle Gorham, Chief Advancement Officer, YMCA of Rock River Valley. “They have given generously to our annual campaign, they have made a capital gift to our long-term capital campaign, they have made a gift to support the building of the new Webster Pavilion at Camp Winnebago, they are supporting the planned renovation of the lobby at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA, and they are underwriting a portion of our Artful Aging program over the next two years.”
More than contributing financially, the Engens share their love of the Y with others in our community. They help tell the story of impact and further extend our cause.
“It’s not every day we get to recognize true heroes in our community, but today is one of those days,” said Dave Gomel, Chief Volunteer Officer, YMCA Board of Directors. “We are excited to celebrate the good things that happen when people step up to make a positive impact on our community. The Engens are making a difference and for that we are thankful.”
The SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA was built in 1964. It has been due for many upgrades. The Y recently upgraded the wellness center, put in a new ventilation system in the pools, replaced the roof, and installed a new climbing wall. The women’s locker room remodel is almost complete and the lobby will get a facelift in the near future.
