The YMCA of Rock River Valley is overwhelmed with gratitude after receiving a $75,000 donation from Illinois Bank and Trust in support of its COVID-19 relief efforts.
The Y closed its doors on March 16 to adhere to the shelter in place order creating a financial strain for the organization. Illinois Bank and Trust recognized an opportunity to help and provided support in a big way.
"This donation is such a blessing,” said Brent Pentenburg, CEO, YMCA of Rock River Valley. “Ceasing our operations has put a significant financial strain on our YMCA as we shift our focus to serve emergency community needs. This donation will help fill a gap to ensure we will thrive again when the crisis is over. Illinois Bank and Trust has been a strong partner with the Y and we appreciate their thoughtfulness as we move through this time in our history together."
For175 years, the Y has adapted its mission to address new challenges as they arise. Today,
our community is confronted with a new challenge and we have transitioned to meet needs by:
- Transitioning our facilities to provide emergency childcare for essential personnel so they can continue their focus on public health and caring for our neighbors in need.
- Partnering with Rockford Housing Authority, Community Action Agency Serving Boone and Winnebago Counties, Lifescape Community Services, AmeriCorps and Northern Illinois Food Bank in delivering food to several area housing developments and other locations in the city. We are delivering more than 5,000 meals a week.
- Providing virtual workout options and resources to stay active and engaged while sheltering in place.

To meet the needs of child care for essential workers, the Y is stepping up to provide a safe and loving environment to these children and enable essential workers to serve our communities during these challenging times without the added stress of finding child care!!
